Let’s Explore Homeowner Insurance

Unlike auto insurance, homeowners insurance has many components involved that determines the quality of coverage. It’s not black and white. There are a few gray areas that you need to know when it comes to purchasing a reliable product. In most cases, our houses will be the largest investment we will ever make. That is why it is important to make sure your investment is properly covered.

Coverage A – Dwelling – This applies to the dwelling or the (primary) structure of the home. Dwelling coverage may also include structures that are attached to the primary home (i.e. attached garage, carport, deck, etc.). In the event of damage or a total loss, your dwelling coverage will pay out. Also, it is critically important that your policy is 100 % replacement.

Coverage B – Other Structure – This is anything that is detached or separated from the home that is damaged. Examples would include detached garage, shed pool, and other outdoor storage settings.

Coverage C – Personal Property – This applies to personal property that is owned by the insured or a member of the insured family and is residing at a residence. A great way we describe this to our clients is if you flipped your house upside down… everything that was to “fall out” would be considered personal contents. A few examples would be appliances, clothing, and furniture.

Coverage D – Loss of Use – This coverage pays out for additional living expenses incurred due to you being unable to reside in your home.

Coverage E – Personal Liability – This is another big one! Coverage is provided for claims or suits brought against an insured because of bodily injury or damages while on your property. Always make sure you are properly covered.
